International disruptions on railway lines of south coast of France due to heavy rainfall

There has been a heavy rainfall on the south coast of France for several days. Due to the damage caused to infrastructure there are total closures on the south coast of France between Lunel – Nîmes on the classic line Montpellier – Nîmes; and between Miramas – L’Estaque.

Current situation and re-routing possibilities are shown below.

Freight trains from/to Béziers /Toulouse/ Perpignan can operate without capacity constraints on the new line from Lattes to Nîmes (D4, P/C 70/400, 25kV AC, ETCS).

Freight trains from Italy can reach Marseille from Ventimiglia and vice-versa.

From Marseille it is currently not possible to operate towards North (Avignon) and West (Fos-sur-Mer/ Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône).

Restoration work is ongoing; estimation on re-opening date shall be provided by 23 October.
