Restriction on Freight Train Operations in Hungary During Heatwave

Please be informed that, based on the decision of the Hungarian Operational Protection Task Force, freight train operations on the Hungarian railway network managed by MÁV Pályaműködtetési Zrt. and GYSEV Zrt. will be suspended daily between 17:00 and 22:00, effective from 3 August 2026 until further notice, due to the level III heat alert.

The restriction shall not apply to trains carrying goods essential for the national economy and the continuity of critical supply chains.

Freight trains already en route at the beginning of the restriction period will be held at the first suitable station where this can be implemented without compromising operational safety. The affected freight trains will be released progressively after 22:00, subject to the prevailing traffic conditions and the instructions of the traffic management centers.

Please note that this restriction does not affect passenger train services.

Thank you very much for your understanding and cooperation.
