International incident – Total closure in Rubí tunnel from 14 March for operational safety reasons

On the afternoon of 12 March, ADIF officially announced that, for operational safety reasons, the complete closure of the Rubí tunnel (Tunnel nº3 Rubí Can Vallhonrat – Riera de Rubí, line 246 Mollet-Sant Fost – Castellbisbal – Agujas Rubí) is necessary. The full closure begins on 14 March at 00:00 and is expected to last approximately 5–7 weeks.

During the closure period, Port of Barcelona, Barcelona Can Tunis and Barcelona Morrot terminals will not be accessible from the SNCF-R/LFP borders (Perpignan – Figueres Vilafant). The closure will also affect Iberian-gauge traffic operating via the Cerbère/Portbou border crossing.

On the morning of 13 March, during the ‘International Contingency Management’ conference call organized by RFC Mediterranean, the representative of ADIF informed participants about the current situation, the available diversionary routes (presentation can be accessed below), and possible mitigation measures were discussed.

ADIF is committed to sharing the latest updates on the progress of the works and any further mitigation measures through regular conference calls.
